Springfield man charged in Exeter burglary

Suspect allegedly stole from home while in stolen vehicle

A Springfield man is facing two felonies and a misdemeanor stemming from an alleged burglary in Exeter while driving a vehicle reported stolen.

James Maxwell, 21, of Springfield, is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, second-degree burglary and misdemeanor stealing.

According to a probable cause report filed by Kenen Martinez, Exeter police chief, on Thursday, Maxwell allegedly entered a residence on West Commercial Street in Exeter and took a yellow tool box with tools and a speaker for a stereo system. He was allegedly inside the residence when Martinez arrived.

Maxwell was also in possession of a 2006 Mazda reported stolen out of Springfield. He is on probation for a prior vehicle theft and has a municipal warrant in Purdy.

Maxwell is being held in the Barry County jail on a bond of $30,000. A case review is scheduled for June 29 at 7:30 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
