Cassville boys prepare to take fight this weekend

Entering the sectional meet at Carthage on Saturday, the Cassville boys track team only had three athletes in four events.

With only the top four placers in each event advancing to the state competition, the team knew only its best effort would keep the season alive.

When the dust settled, Cassville qualified all three athletes in each of their respective events.

“I’m really proud of this group as a whole this season,” said Clay Weldy, Cassville coach. “They have worked hard all year, and now they will get a chance to compete at the state level. I’m excited for our three seniors to get to finish their high school careers at state this weekend.

“I’m also excited for our young group of girls who are making the first of I hope several trips to Jeff City in their careers.”

Results from the sectional round are as follows:

First place

• 400- meter: Austin Wilson, 50.82

Third place

• 200-meter: Austin Wilson, 22.93

• Shot put: Skyler Wolf, 47-9

Fourth place

• Javelin: Jordan Reed, 152-7
