Dodson plays way to sectionals
Wildcat golf team sees season end at Carl Junction
On a sunny and windy day at Briarbrook in Carl Junction, Cassville’s Issac Dodson played his way into the Class 3 sectional.
It was a rough day for the Wildcats all around, as they finished ninth in the nine-team field with a 396.
Springfield Catholic won the Class 3, district 6 event with a team score of 322, and Monett was second with a 351. Both advance to the sectional round on Monday at Marshfield.
Dodson finished with a 22-over-par 94, good enough for 22nd in the 51-player field.
Bailey Burden of Aurora was the individual champion with a 78.
Defending individual state champion Dylan Garner saw his stellar career at Cassville conclude with a plus-23.
Garner was hampered by an injury during the round and could be seen grimacing after every shot.
Shannon Haney recorded a plus-26. Austin Wilson and Payton Varner were plus-37 and plus-43, respectively.
At the district meet, the top two teams, along with the top 15 individual scores of golfers not on teams that qualified, move to the sectional round.
On Monday, at Marshfield, the top two teams and top 12 scorers will advance to the state championships. Rounds are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
