Purdy stuns Pierce City for district title
Black and gold Eagles raise district hardware
PIERCE CITY — One thing was for certain, one set of Eagles had to win, it just happened to be the black and gold clad Eagles of Purdy who took home the Class 2, District 12 title on Saturday with a 55-51 victory on Saturday.
Pierce City jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter, but surrendered an 18-1 run to Purdy to trail 24-20 with 3:35 left in the first half.
The second half was a seesaw affair. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied 39-39. In the final eight minutes the game changed leads nine times and was tied on four occasions.
The difference came down to Purdy making free throws in the final two minutes, and Pierce City 3-pointer that would have tied the game with seconds left bouncing around the rim and off.
