Southwest boys, girls hit district hardwood
For the Southwest boys and girls basketball teams, the season is now boiled down to a series of one-game playoffs beginning in the Class 2, District 12 tournament.
The teams can win and advance, or lose and begin preparation for next year.
On the boys side, the Trojans have work to do as the No. 7 seed team in the eight-team field.
Pierce City is the top seed, followed by Purdy, Thomas Jefferson, College Heights, Jasper, Sarcoxie, Southwest and McAuley Catholic.
Action begins Tuesday as Pierce City and McAuley tip at 4 p.m. followed by College Heights and Jasper at 5:30 p.m.
Those winners play in the semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Southwest will entertain Purdy at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with Southwest and Thomas Jefferson in the night cap at 8:30 p.m.
Those winners meet Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
The title game is set for Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
In the girls’ tournament, the Lady Trojans, as the No. 8 seed will have a tough road.
Southwest opens with No. 1 seed Sarcoxie at 4 p.m. on Monday, followed by No. 4 McAuley and No. 5 Jasper at 5:30 p.m. the winners of those two games meet on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.
No. 2 seed Pierce City and No. 7 seed Thomas Jefferson play at 7 p.m. on Monday, followed by No. 3 Purdy and No. 6 College Heights. Those winners play a semifinal contest on Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
The girls championship game is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 22.
