Time to shine for small school basketball teams

District basketball for Wheaton, Exeter begins Saturday

The second season for Class 1 through Class 3 area hoops teams is now upon on them.

With the regular season completed, the Wheaton and Exeter boys hoops squads reset records and begin post-season play on Saturday in Willard in the Class 1, District 5 tournament.

Walnut Grove earned the No. 1 overall seed, followed in order by Hurley, Greenfield, Golden City and Dadeville. Exeter was voted the No. 7 seed, and Wheaton claimed the No. 8 seed.

Action begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday with Walnut Grove and Wheaton squaring off, followed by Golden City and Everton.

The winners of those two contests meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the semifinal.

Hurley and Exeter are slated to play at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Greenfield and Dadeville.

Those winners play at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
