Man arrested for multiple Walmart thefts
Suspect, partner allegedly steal from Monett, Cassville stores
A Carthage man is facing two felonies after allegedly stealing multiple items from Walmart, totaling $9,714.
Sven Hagen, 30, of Carthage, is charged with two counts of felony stealing in separate cases, one filed by the city of Cassville and a second filed by the Monett.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Kyle Kuhn, with the Cassville Police Department, Hagen allegedly stole 12 cell phones on Jan. 7 at about 5:01 a.m. Surveillance video allegedly showed Hagen entering the store about 30 minutes earlier, walking to the back locked cabinet where the phones are kept, unlocking the door with a key and taking 12 phones from the cabinet and putting them in his shopping cart.
Hagen and another man, Michael Davis, allegedly walked to a different part of the store and hid the phones in their coats. The devices were valued at $8,069.
On Jan. 10, Carthage police contacted Kuhn after arresting Hagen and Davis following an alleged theft at the Carthage Walmart.
According to the second probable cause statement, filed by Det. Jeffrey Martinson, with the Monett Police Department, officers took a report of 5 stolen iPads from the Monett Walmart on Jan. 8. The items were valued at $1,645.
Surveillance video showed two men unlocking the display case at about 3:30 a.m., taking the iPads, concealing them in a shopping cart, then leaving the store. A Walmart asset protection associate recognized the men as the same two that had allegedly stolen items recently from the Cassville and Webb City stores. Carthage police also confiscated a master barrel key used to unlock the display cases.
Hagen is being held in the Barry County jail. His bond is listed at $64,800. He has been arraigned, and a disposition hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
