Cassville Chamber searching for banquet centerpieces

The Cassville Chamber is in need of banquet centerpieces. Businesses that would like to donate a centerpiece should contact the Chamber at 417-847-2814, or call a local florist. The centerpieces will be given away at the conclusion of the banquet, which will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m., in the Cassville High School Commons area.

SKITS to host play in April

Shell Knob in the Spotlight (SKITS) will host a “Western Comedy” on April 27 and 28 at 6:30 p.m., and April 29 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at Highways YY and 39 in Shell Knob. People may call or text Barb Van Dusen for tickets at 417-665-9763. The cost is $7 in advance or $9 at the door.

Master Gardeners hosting workshop

Planting time will soon be here, and the second annual Barry County Master Gardeners’ workshop can help you in preparing for a successful year. The event will be at Crowder College in Cassville on March 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Speakers will address varied topics providing useful information to home gardeners, whether novice or expert. Dr. Tom Riley, entomologist and Master Gardener, will discuss our local butterflies, their biology and plant preferences. Linda Stuart and Zeta VanWye, members of Barry County Master Gardeners, will show us how to grow mushrooms on a log. A Monsanto representative will provide information concerning GMOs and what the home gardener should know about them. Shon Bishop, a small farms expert from Lincoln University, will share hints on growing greens and tomatoes. After each presentation there will be time for participants to ask questions. The workshop will include some snacks and door prizes. To attend the workshop, people may register through the Barry County Extension Office. The cost is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Habitat for Humanity at new location

To find Habitat for Humanity at its new location, from north on Main Street, drivers can turn left on 11th Street at Dollar General, then at stop sign, turn left onto County Road, which becomes West 10th Street, and the building is on the right. If traveling north on Highway 37 from Walmart, drivers can turn right onto Farm Road 2172, near Bullets N Bows, which also becomes West 10th Street. The storefront, on the left, has a bright red awning. The store is also on the same street as Ken’s Collision Center. For more information, people may call the store at 417-846-0110.

Intermediate Spelling Bee on tap at Cassville

The Cassville Intermediate School Spelling Bee, for students in fourth and fifth grades, will be held today (Wednesday) at 9 a.m. in the Cassville Event Center.
