Burst pipe leads to fire alarm at Judicial Center

Thursday, January 18, 2018
Cassville firefighters used a heat gun to check the wall and ceiling in the sally port at the Barry County Judicial Center after fire alarms brought first responders to the building just before 4 p.m. Thursday. Johnnie Cox, Barry County associate circuit judge who was at the scene when the alarm sounded, said the issue is most likely a frozen pipe in the sally port. Gushing water likely shorted a couple lights in the port, causing a faint burning smell. "The fire department said we could leave the power to the building on, and there was no damage inside," Cox said. "The water only got in the sally port." Cox said that area of the building is not tied to the central heat and air, and the sprinkler and lights should be fixed in the near future. Kyle Troutman/editor@casville-democrat.com
