Two DJ White free throws with 2 seconds left secured a 57-55 win for Cassville (6-6) on Saturday against Pierce City in the Scoreboard Guy Shootout in Mt. Vernon.

The win was a huge step in the right direct for the Wildcats, who have struggled this season with teams that are able to force tempo like Purdy and East Newton.

“Coach Matt Street does a great job with his kids,” said Barrett Milleson, Cassville coach. “We knew that [Hunter] Tindell would be a key for us defensively. I thought our kids did a great job with the game plan and executed well.”

On Saturday, the Wildcats were able to procure the right mix of offense and defensive pressure to never let the Eagles find their proper game flow.

“Offensively, we are still finding our rhythm and getting better each contest,” Milleson said. “For us, we have to approach each game with what we are going to do defensively to keep games at a pace we are confident we can win at. DJ White had a solid game after getting frustrated early.”

Ethan Hoppes led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 points. No other individual totals were reported.

Cassville hosts Riverton (Kan.) on Friday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
