Christmas parades to spread cheer in communities
Wheaton, Purdy to host annual parades in coming weeks
To celebrate the season and spread holiday cheer, area communities will be hosting their annual Christmas parades.
Wheaton will host its annual Christmas parade on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Lineup will begin at 5 p.m. at the Body of Christ Ministries on Highway 86. The parade will travel from 86 Highway to Main Street.
Santa will be at the Wheaton Train Depot to visit with children before the parade from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with free cookies, a candy bag, and a free picture with Santa, and after the parade as well.
Hot dogs, chili and hot chocolate will be served in the city park after the parade.
Cash prizes for float entries in their respective categories include: First place, $25; Second, $15; and Third, $10. For more information on float entries, people may call 417-652-3314. So far, the city reports that about 35 to 40 floats have signed up for the parade.
Purdy will host its annual Christmas parade at 11 a.m. on Dec. 16.
The parade route will start in the high school parking lot, and travel on Highway C to Country Corner.
Lineup will begin in the parking lot at 10 a.m.
This year, floats are open entry. For more information, people may call Ken Terry at 417-236-4139. More than 56 float entries have signed up, and three bands, including the Shell Knob Junior High Band, Wheaton Band and Purdy Band, will perform.
