BarCo schools to honor veterans
Music tributes, flag presentations in lineups
As per tradition, patriotism flies high in Barry County schools on Veterans Day, so on Friday, gymnasiums across the county will be packed as students, veterans and families gather in observance of the holiday, with special assemblies and receptions planned to honor all veterans past and present who have served in the Armed Forces.
To celebrate all servicemen and women past and present who have served in the Armed Forces, Barry County schools invite veterans, their families and community members to join them at the following events in their respective districts:
The Cassville school district will host the 29th annual Veterans Day Assembly on Friday at 9 a.m. in the Cassville High School gymnasium.
The event will include performances by Center Stage, Mass Choir and Concert Band, to include a Pride of America medley tribute. The JROTC Color Guard will present and retrieve the colors, and perform the 13 folds of the flag, which will conclude with a flag presentation to a veteran or family member of a veteran.
Two students will also read their winning essays sharing their thoughts on the meaning of heroes and freedom, and a reception for veterans and family members will follow in the FACS classroom. For more information, people may call the school at 417-847-3137.
The Exeter school district will host its Veterans Day Assembly on on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
The choir and band will provide music. Several students will also present readings and poems. A special guest speaker will address the audience. Those veterans and active duty militia in attendance will be recognized during the assembly. A reception will follow the assembly for veterans and their families. The Wheaton school district will host its annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday from 10-11 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The assembly will include a musical tribute, a presentation of the flag by the JROTC of Monett to an attending veteran, a slide show, and recognition of veterans.
In lieu of a keynote speaker this year, members of student council will ask a panel of veterans questions, who will share their experiences, perspectives and stories with the students.
A lunch reception will follow from 11 a.m. to noon for veterans and their families. For more information, people may call the school at 417-652-3914.
The Southwest school district will host a luncheon for veterans and their families in the high school cafeteria at 11:45 a.m., followed by an assembly at 12:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Assembly highlights include musical tributes by elementary students and the high school band, along with a presentation of colors and flag folding ceremony by the Monett JROTC, concluding with a flag presentation to an attending veteran. The National Honor Society will host a Veterans Day assembly at 2:15 p.m. Friday in the Purdy High School gymnasium.
Musical tributes will be provided by the school band and choir. A special guest speaker will share an honorary Veterans Day address. All service members who attend will be recognized.
The JROTC will perform a presentation of the colors, and a video slide show with be presented with photos of area veterans.

Shell Knob School will be hosting its second annual breakfast for veterans and their families from 8 to 9 a.m. in the gymnasium lobby at the school.
