Exeter FFA members attend Convention, exceed sales goals

Exeter FFA members recently attended the American Degree Ceremony in Indianapolis, Ind., as part of activities included at the FFA National Convention Oct. 25-28. The group also attended the Animal Science and Exploration Day at Mizzou College in Columbia on Oct. 13, and exceeded sales goals for their Fall Fundraiser. Group wraps up Fall Fundraiser with surplus in sales orders

On Oct. 25 through Oct. 28, the Exeter FFA Chapter attended the 90th annual National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. A total of eight members attended, including Macy Barrett, Reanna Berry, Abbi Caddell, Chloe Carpenter, Madelyn Cole, Mykah Estes, Wyatt Hoppes, and Lane Willis, as well as Chapter Advisor Joe Moore and female Chaperone Sonya Swope. 

Members attended general sessions, listened to speakers such as Laila Ali, Mick Ebeling, Secretary of Agriculture; Sonny Purdue, National FFA Secretary; Victoria Harris, and National FFA Eastern Region VP Ashley Willits. Members watched the Stars Over America Award ceremony, the Honorary American Degree ceremony, and the American Degree ceremony. They also attended a Rascal Flatts concert, and toured several businesses, including Beasley’s Orchard, Dixie Chopper and Cummins Engine.

On Friday, Oct. 13, two Exeter FFA Chapter members attended the Animal Science and Exploration Day at Mizzou College in Columbia.

Junior Kiley Lyons and Vanessa Ward applied to the event, and were two of 50 students chosen to attend. High School juniors and seniors from across the state attended and participated in hands-on activities, which taught them about various areas of animal science. Members worked and learned in diverse lab settings, met current animal science students and alumni, toured the farms at the University of Missouri, and the MU College of Veterinary Medicine. 

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, the FFA group's Fall Fundraiser came to a close, with the chapter exceeded its goal of selling 540 items; the final total coming in at 608 items. Two members were rewarded with gift cards for their outstanding sales efforts: Jessica Bush was recognized for Top Salesperson of weeks one and two; and Reanna Berry as Top Salesperson of weeks three and four.

In addition to exceeding its chapter goal, members had a goal of selling 15 items each. The 19 members who met that goal were rewarded with a pizza party on Oct. 19. Those members were: Macy Barrett, Reanna Berry, Yvonne Bradford, Jessica Bush, Abbi Caddell, Chloe Carpenter, Madelyn Cole, Mykah Estes, Bobby Fletcher, Mackenzie Fuller, Hailey Mattingly, Jamison Nichols, Logan Rayburn, Clayton Rose, Shayla Sports and Riley Still.
