Police to accept unused medications at City Hall

The Cassville Police Department is again participating in the D.E.A. Prescription Take Back Day, set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The address to drop off the medication is Cassville City Hall and Cassville Police Department, located at 300 Main. The entrance will be in the back of the building using the Council Chamber door.

The Prescription Take Back Day is to help people to properly dispose of unused medications.

"Proper disposal of medication helps to protect the environment and keeps the medicine from being flushed into our water systems," said Dana Kammerlohr, Cassville police chief. "This also helps keep the medication out of the hands of people who do not have a prescription or need for the medication, but want to use it for recreational use only.

"We want to encourage people to take the time to clean out their medicine drawers and cabinets and properly dispose of their unused medicine."

Over-the-counter medications will also be accepted. Inhalers, illegal drugs or sharp objects (i.e.syringes) will not be accepted. No medications can be accepted from medical clinics, pharmacies or veterinary clinics.

For more information, people may call the department at 417-847-4700.
