Records fall at Thursday’s Big 8 Conference XC meet
Cassville girls run away with conference title
Behind five personal record performances, the Cassville girls cross-country team won the Big 8 Conference meet on Thursday.
“I’ve said that a runner only has so many run-your-guts-out events in them,” said Chris Shore, Cassville coach. “Thursday, those girls gave me everything they had and won the meet.”
Cassville’s Brylee Wilson and Zoey Brookes took first and second individually with 19:47 and 19:52 times, respectively.
Both athletes rewrote the school record of 20:15 set by Shradha Samuel at the state meet in 2002.
“The whole team’s hard work paid off,” Shore said. “I am proud of these girls and their accomplishments at the meet.”
Jordan Stafford was eighth for Cassville with a time of 21:39 and Madison Bowyer was 12th with 22:39.
The Wildcats took third as a group, and Shore said they could have placed higher, but injuries have hampered the unit’s progress.
Austin Wilson and Devon Brookes took seventh and eighth, with times of 17:09 and 17:13, respectively.
Issac Dodson was 14th with a time of 17:49.
“We’re not where we want to be with the group,” Shore said. “Injuries are a big reason why. We have districts coming up at Hollister on Oct. 28 and we hope to be healthy by then.”
