Cassville JV gets win over Mt. Vernon
Team finishes season with 7-1 record
The junior varsity Wildcats hosted Mt. Vernon on Monday in their final game of the year, getting a 34-18 win over the visiting Mountaineers.
Cassville got off to a fast start, scoring on its first two possessions to take an early 14-0 lead. Deven Bates and Blake Gordon connected on two pass plays to the end zone to get the Wildcat offense kickstarted. Gordon also scored a 2-point conversion.
Mt. Vernon answered on its next drive, cutting the deficit to 14-6. Cassville extended the lead to 20-6 as the first quarter came to a close when Keaton Artherton hauled in a touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.
In second half action, the Mountaineers scored early to get within striking distance at 20-12. However, the ‘Cats answered with another scoring drive, capped off by a Logan Tolbert touchdown run late in the 3rd quarter.
Killian Barbee connected with Spencer Moeller for 2 points, pushing the lead to 28-12. Just as the 3rd quarter was about to expire, Mt. Vernon scored its final points of the evening, making the score 28-18 entering the final quarter.
Cassville would tack on one more score when Carson Jacobson darted untouched into the south end zone.
The junior varsity Wildcats finished the season with a record of 7-1.
