Career-best round carries Purdy’s Brown
Lady Eagles senior takes 5th at state championships
A career-best round guided Purdy’s Zoe Brown to a fifth-place finish at the Class 1 Missouri state golf championships at the Columbia Country Club last week.
Brown, a senior, said the biggest factor for her was just to relax.
“I was pretty nervous at the district tournament,” Brown said. “The big thing was for me to just relax and let the game come to me. I immediately saw better results when I was able to relax.”
Sarah Bell, of Norte Dame (Cape Giradeau), won the individual title with a 69, and her teammate Allison Bray was second with a 74. Brown shot an 83.
“It was a mental course with a lot of obstacles,” Brown said. “You had to lay up a lot with your shot. It forced you to think ahead.”
Brown said she does not have aspirations to play golf in college, but she does plan to play the game as time allows in her spare time.
Brown recorded a 12-over-par 84 in the district round at Cassville and placed second individually behind Seneca’s Maggie Moore to advance to the sectional tournament. In Nevada, at the sectional event, she finished third behind Kayla Pfitzner of Springfield Catholic and Moore.
