Wildcats JV dominates ‘Dawgs
24-point second half leads to big win
Cassville traveled to Aurora to take on the Houn' Dawgs in junior varsity football on Monday.
With scoring plays in each quarter, and a strong defensive effort, the Wildcats claimed an impressive 40-12 victory over their hosts. Jacob Housekeeper got the scoring started with a 15-yard touchdown run late in the opening quarter. Deven Bates completed a pass to Dane Martin for a two point conversion, giving Cassville an early 8-0 lead.
The ‘Cats would strike again late in the second quarter when Bates connected with Blake Gordon on a 4-yard passing strike. Bates ran in for 2 points, extending the lead to 16-0. Aurora, fighting to stay in the game, was able to score just before half on a screen pass to cut the deficit to 16-6 at intermission.
Coming out after the halftime break, Cassville extended the lead when Carson Jacobson found the end zone from 4 yards out. A Bates to Gordon pass for 2 points put the Wildcats up 24-6.
Cassville scored twice in the final quarter to put the game out of reach for Aurora. First, Colton Moore powered in from 3 yards out, then Housekeeper, on the next possession, broke free for a 33-yard scoring run. Both of those touchdowns were followed by a two-point plays, making the score 40-6 Cassville with about 3 minutes to play.
With less than 10 seconds on the clock, Aurora scored on a 40-yard pass as a receiver was able to get behind the defensive secondary. This score led to the 40-12 final.
