Larry James Eggleston, “Jim,
Larry James Eggleston, “Jim,” died Friday, October 6, at 4:20 p.m., after a courageous battle against cancer. Jim was born 1949 in Washburn, to Eura and Marian (Snook) Eggleston. He attended Southwest Schools in Washburn, MO and graduated in 1967.
Jim joined the US Army in 1969 and served in Korea. He was married to Madonna (Latshaw) in 1968 and they had three children, Angel, Jimmie and Crystal. He had two children with his wife Debbie Miller-Swadley; Heather Eggleston Taylor, and Dustin Lee Eggleston.
Jim owned a drywall company and worked in the construction industry for many years in the Kansas City area, but his love was the family business of buying and selling antiques, much like his father Eura. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, telling stories. He was always good for laugh, and everyone he met loved to visit with him.
Jim is survived by his five children; Angela Kaye (Eggleston) Shewmaker and husband Josh of Pleasant Hill, MO, Jimmie Christopher James Dean Eggleston and wife Melissa (Muncy) of Prairie Village, KS, Crystal Gayle Eggleston-Vaughn and husband Adam of Lone Jack, MO, Heather Eggleston Taylor of Buter, MO, and Dusty Lee Eggleston of Deepwater, MO; six grandchildren – Josh, Taylor, Conway, Delilah, Emma, and Maci; two sisters Nelda and Leon Reed of Rolla, MO and Ema Lea and Jack Reed of Lawrence, KS; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; along with many friends who will miss him greatly. His was preceded in death by his parents Eura and Marian (Snook) Eggleston and two siblings; Norma June (Eggleston) Still and Darrell Johnnie Eggleston.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 15, from 1:00-3:00 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, MO.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society (through Vansant-Mills Funeral Home).
