Long-time barber Rex Stumpff shares a heartfelt hug with a friend during a party held at his shop Monday at 609 Main to celebrate his retirement. Stumpff has served patrons in Cassville since 1963, when he purchased the original South Side Barber Shop on the square. During his remarkably long, nearly 60-year career, Stumpff had a shop on 7th Street, and one in Shell Knob, before settling at his current location in 1974. Stumpff said he has thoroughly enjoyed barbering, and fellowship with his many loyal customers through the years, many of whom made the shop a gathering place to visit and play checkers. His daughter, Laura Driver, cosmetologist at J&L Hair Fashions next door, helps serves cake behind him. Julia Kilmer/reporter@cassville-democrat.com
