Cassville takes tourney championship at Southwest

Fresh off a Volleyfest Tournament title at Southwest on Saturday, the Cassville volleyball team is ready to race into the remainder of the season.

The Lady Wildcats (14-4-2) were undefeated in big 8 Conference play as of Monday and still have all of their season goals ahead of them

“Our defense and serve-receive is the difference for us this year,” said Brianna Kleine, Cassville coach. “We’ve worked a lot of serve-receive in practice to make sure we can set it up to hit, and I think the results are showing in our record.”

On Thursday, The Lady Wildcats topped Monett in three sets. After dropping the opening set, Cassville controlled the match with its defense.

“We got off to the slow start, but the girls finally got into the flow,” Kleine said. “Ideally, you don’t want it to take a set to get there, but once we got our defense rolling, the offense followed along. So much of what we do is based on our defense.”

Brianna Hemphill was named tournament MVP at Southwest.

On Tuesday, Cassville faced East Newton. Those results were not available at press time.

The Lady Wildcats will be in action on Thursday, hosting Purdy.
