Karla Ingrid (Johnson) Hoyt, 70, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Lacoba Homes in Monett.
Born on November 7, 1946, in Sacramento, Calif., she was the daughter of Carl and Audrey Johnson. Karla graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1964. On April 19, 1968, she married Robert Hoyt in Oakland, Calif.
Karla joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 17 and was a faithful member her entire life. Karla and Bob lived in California and Alaska before moving their family to Monett in 1980. After she raised her children, Karla returned to college and graduated with a Bachelorís degree in Special Education from Missouri Southern State University in 2000. She taught Special Education in Neosho and Cassville before retiring in 2008. Karla will be remembered for her tireless work helping children and their families with special needs receive a fair and proper education.
Karla is survived by her children, Melanie Hills and husband Todd, Nathan Hoyt and wife Enid, Aaron Hoyt and wife Gretchen, Daniel Hoyt and wife Megan, and Lori Hoyt. Karla has seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings, Eric Johnson, Lorna Johnson and Sonja (Johnson) Bunnell. She was preceded in death by three children, Joanna Elizabeth Hoyt (1), Robert Brye Hoyt (12), and Julie Alissa Hoyt (12), as well as her parents, and one sister, Karen Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Monett. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Kingís Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Camp Barnabas in care of the funeral home.
