Cassville High School opens Student Success Center
Staff encouraging students to utilize resource
Cassville High School has announced the opening of its new Student Success Center, staffed with certified teachers who will assist students with their learning needs to include after school tutoring to improve grades and complete school work.
The new Center will be open beginning Sept. 5 at the high school library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:30 p.m. on a come-and-go basis.
Staff are encouraging students to utilize the Center to their academic advantage.
Inspiration for the idea arose from School Improvement Committee meetings held this summer.
"The school improvement committee discussed several ways to aid students in being successful," said Jill LeCompte, Cassville assistant superintendent. "The high school members of the committee were looking for a way to draw students who might be reluctant to stay after school because of other activities or because getting help may not be [considered] 'cool.' So by providing an area where students can be with friends and enjoy snacks in a non-stressful environment and receive help, we hope the Center will entice students to attend."
LeCompte praised the committee's efforts.
"Our school improvement committee makes suggestions on many ideas and current procedures that occur around the district," she said. "They are all very sincere and helpful."
A teacher may not be available at the Center for each and every subject area at all times, but the teachers present are willing to assist students with whatever they may need help with.
If a student should still need help with a specific subject, they can check a schedule posted outside the library to see when a teacher for the specific content needed will be present, or contact Samantha Cosper at email@example.com, to make arrangements. Students should give at least three school days notice.
In the meantime, students can make arrangements to receive tutoring from individual teachers on their own and are still able to utilize eighth hour in the school day for tutoring.
In addition to assisting students with tutoring and general academic performance, the Center will also help provide a supervised and safe place for students to work on group assignments, or who need access to Wifi to complete school assignments.
Students will be required to sign-in and out of the Center.
Transportation home should be arranged by students in advance.
The Center will be closed on days when school is not in session or on early dismissal days.
