Cassville Parents as Teachers returns this year

The Parents as Teachers program will host its back to school group meeting on Sept. 7 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Eunice Thomas Elementary School cafeteria. The meeting is for families to get acquainted with group activities and play, and the time may also be used to schedule appointments. Free hot dogs and snacks will be provided. Those who bring a new family to the meeting will be entered into a drawing for a $10 Walmart gift card. Parent educators include Pam Ralls and Nola Nickols.

Funds being collected for heart surgery

The Central Crossing Senior Center is holding a fundraising drive for Tracy Warner to receive heart surgery. People may donate to the “Get Well Tracy Warner” fund at the Arvest Bank in Shell Knob.

Community Foundation accepting grant applications

The Cassville Community Foundation is accepting grant applications through Sept. 1. Applications are also available at the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce office. All applications must be returned to the Chamber office. People may contact Kati Rose at cassvillecommunityfoundation@gmail.com for additional information.

Winners announced in ‘Spud’ McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament

Top winners in the 33rd annual “Spud” McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament, held as part of the Wheaton Fire Department’s annual barbecue on Aug. 26 were “Reddog” Teigland and Pete Ploss from Shell Knob in first place, winning $60; Joe and Matt Hickman in second with $50; James Savage and Ron Senseney in third with $40, Mark and Dale Brattin in fourth with $30, and Daryl Forgey and Gene Whitman in fifth with $21. Thirteen teams played this year.
