Richard A. Watt (Rick)
Richard A. Watt (Rick), 75, of Clovis, California, died Sunday, August 6, 2017. Born in Wichita, Kansas, on February 1, 1942, he was the youngest son of Theodore Franklin and Beth Marie (Hagadorne) Watt. He attended school in Noel, Missouri, and graduated as Football Captain, class of 1960, Cassville High School in Missouri before joining the U.S.Navy in 1961. Rick achieved rank of Chief Petty Officer and Fire Chief aboard The USS Tionderoga Aircraft Carrier. He was awarded The Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal. After Honorable Discharge, Rick worked in retail sales for Gambles Dept Store in Otumwa, Iowa, moving to Burbank, Ca. in 1966, where he completed numerous Management Training Programs and supervised/managed Home Goods, Men’s Ware/ Furnishings, with May Company, Los Angeles and Westwood.
He married Martha (Marty) Stephens on November 25, 1966 and they purchased their first home in Burbank before their two children were born: Eric (1970) and April (1972). In February, 1974, Rick moved his family to Fresno, California where he was employed in Management with Gottschalks & Co for many years. Over the past 20 years, he was a familiar face in Clovis as Manager of Marshall’s Dept. Store where he retired in 2014.
Rick was graduated from the Police Academy at Pacific College before becoming part of Fresno County Sheriff’s Reserve Patrol, where he served the Community for many years. He was always first to volunteer his help whenever needed in home, church, school, and the Community.
He is survived by Marty Watt, son, Richard “Eric” Watt and wife, Anastasiia, of Clovis, daughter, April Watt of Clovis, Calif., and four grandchildren: Sydney, Noah and Emily Albertson and Mika Watt., all of Clovis; Patsy and Wilbur Bradley, sister and brother in law, of Lebanon, Mo., and their children, Shari Jo Bradley Starr, and Leslie Bradley Scott and their families; Brother in law, James (Spiz) Stephens of Cassville, Mo., and his children Jim Stephens and Jil Stephens Hunt and their families; Sister-in-law, Linda (Stephens) McCormick and Brother-in-law Stanley Gilstrap of Cathedral City, Calif., and their children Mary Gilstrap, David Gilstrap, Stephen Gilstrap, and Matthew Gilstrap and their families; and Marla Watt and Laura Colombo and their families.
He is preceded in death by his Father Theodore Franklin Watt, Mother Beth Hagadorn Cox, stepfather, Guy R Cox, brothers Lewis Kenneth Watt and Robert Theodore Watt.
A Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, August 17th at 11 a.m. at New Hope Community Church with Pastor, Tim Rolen officiating, followed by a gathering of friends & family in The Bridge room at the church.
