Annual Wheaton BBQ offers fun-filled day at the park
Free rides for kids, car show, entertainment on tap
The 59th annual Wheaton BBQ will kick off at 11 a.m. on Aug. 26 with the Wheaton Street Machines Show and Shine Car Event, and the Spud McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament.
Food service begins at 11:30 a.m. with the fire department’s traditional barbecue chicken half, baked potato, baked beans, bread and a beverage, available at a cost of $6 for adults and $3 for children. Also available will be a homemade pulled pork sandwich and baked beans, at a cost of $5. In addition, guests may visit the Firemen’s Ice Cream Stand or purchase a slice of homemade pie, provided by the Wheaton United Methodist Women.
Art and craft vendors will be on site throughout the day. Free children’s carnival rides begin at 1 p.m., and members of the Wheaton FFA will sponsor a petting zoo.
Grandstand entertainment begins at 2 p.m. with the Flyin’ Buzzards Bluegrass Band, followed by Charles Goswick at 3 p.m. No Apparent Reason Bluegrass Band takes the stage at 5 p.m., followed by Ripplin’ Creek Bluegrass Band at 6 p.m., Glory Bound, a gospel group, will close out the evening’s entrainment lineup at 7 p.m.
The finale for the evening is the duck race, in which the winner will receive a $500 cash prize. Second place winner will take home $250; third place winner will receive $125; and $75 and E$50 will go to the fourth and fifth place winners,respectively.
Two pair of Justin Boots, in adult sizes, will also be give away during the duck race.
