Wildcats release gridiron path
Cassville schedule features 4 home games
With the official fall season practice schedule kicking off on Monday, the 2017 football season is just around the corner.
For the Wildcats football team, the hope is for a return to playoff glory. Last year, Cassville took a huge step forward with an 8-3 record.
The Wildcats gave fans a glimpse of what many believe will come to fruition when it took eventual state champion Monett to the wire during the regular season.
As a matter of fact, the other losses the Wildcats suffered were to state champions — falling to Lamar once and Monett twice.
Still, the team and especially the coaches, understand what was done last year does not guarantee results this year.
With only four home games on the schedule this season, the Wildcat Nation must put on their traveling shoes and turn several visitors stadiums into de-facto home field oases. The rabid fan base has done it before.
The Black and Gold open the season with a huge test on Aug. 18, as defending Class 2 state champion Lamar come calling.
The following week sees a road trip to perennial No. 1 district seed Reeds Spring.
September opens with a trip to Granby to play East Newton on the 1st.
A battle with McDonald County takes place in Cassville on Sept. 8. A week later, the Wildcats return a trip to St. James, up I-44.
The Barry County Brawl returns to Cassville on Sept. 22, with defending state champion Monett coming to town. Fans will need no extra motivation for this game.
Cassville hits the road again on Sept. 29 to take on Seneca.
Senior night is set for Oct. 6, with the final regular season home game against Aurora.
The season finale is a week later in Mt. Vernon on Oct. 13.
All kickoff times are slated for 7 p.m.
