Southwest schools release back-to-school information
Open house to be held Aug. 7 at the district
With the first day of school quickly approaching Aug. 9, staff members of the Southwest school district are looking forward to the return of last yearís students and new students to the district.
The following list of important activities is provided for students and parents/guardians to prepare for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
July 26 at 8:30 a.m. in the high school gym. Cost is $5. All fifth through 12th grade students planning on participating in the Southwest athletic programs are required to take a physical.
New Student Enrollment
Enrollment will take place Monday through Aug. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to noon; and 1-3 p.m. Students should report to elementary (K-4), middle school (5-8), or high school (9-12) offices. Required information includes the studentís birth certificate, proof of residency, immunization records, custody documentation (if needed), and the final report card from the school last attended. No students will be enrolled during Back-to-School Open House on Aug. 7.
Fifth/Sixth-Grade Open House
Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. in the elementary/middle school cafeteria. All fifth and sixth-grade students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this informational meeting planned specifically for those grade levels. Policies will be discussed and student schedules will be distributed.
Back-to-School/Open House event
Aug. 7 from 4-6 p.m. in all buildings. This will be a time for students to pick up schedules, receive locker assignments (middle school and high school), meet teachers, visit classrooms and become informed concerning bus routes. Elementary and middle school students are encouraged to bring their supplies in preparation for school starting on Aug. 9. For bus routes, the district transportation director and all drivers will be available in the elementary library to answer questions and share information, including morning pick up and evening drop off times and locations. High school students can pick up their schedules in the high school office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Aug. 4.
Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. in the High school Commons Area. All ninth-grade students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this important informational meeting.
First Day of School: Aug. 9. Students are asked to not arrive on campus before 7:30 a.m.
