Russell Robinson: Former Cassville teacher salutes Bob Mitchell
Congratulations to Bob Mitchell!
As I still subscribe to the Cassville Democrat to keep up with my former students, their parents, children, grandchildren and the many life-long friends that I made in Cassville when teaching music there, I was so pleased to recently read of Bob Mitchell’s induction into the Missouri Press Association’s Hall of Fame. I can think of no one more deserving.
I have fond memories of Bob’s longtime service as editor, owner, photographer and just about every operation of the paper during my time teaching music in Cassville from 1974-1981. There was never an event with the Cassville music department that Bob did not cover. I can still see him with his camera around his neck carrying that big flash attachment.
Bob was a huge supporter of the music department and all school activities, and he never missed an opportunity to put in a spread in the Cassville Democrat, always making the students and their parents feel special for being recognized in the paper.
I also remember many times sitting in his office on Main Street getting his sage advice, often whether I asked for it or not.
Bob, my personal congratulations on this award, for all you have done for Cassville over your many years, and I especially thank you for your friendship and guidance when I started my career in music teaching in Cassville.
