James Lee Stephens
James Lee Stephens, 69, of Cassville, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
He was born Jan. 30, 1948, in Cassville, the son of Leon and Ruth (Prewitt) Stephens. On Feb. 18, 1972, in Washburn, he was united in marriage to Donna Schell, who preceded him in death on July 19, 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents and an infant brother, Leon Stephens, Jr.
Survivors include: two daughters, Michelle Cummings and her husband Andrew of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Shantara “Tara” Goldberg and her husband Adam of San Clemente, Calif.; two brothers, Donnie Stephens of Cassville, and Eddie Stephens and his wife Debbie of Carthage; two sisters, Nita Bradford of Cassville, and Peggy Edie and her husband Doyle of Exeter; and six grandchildren.
He grew up and received his education at Washburn, graduating from Southwest High School and Trinity College of Natural Health. During the Vietnam War, he received a Bronze Star. He served in the U.S. Army from March 27, 1969, until March 26, 1971. For ten and a half years he and Donna owned and operated 4-Way Restaurant. The last 19 years, he was a Naturopathic Doctor and owned and operated Ozark Healthy Herbs in Cassville. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Cassville.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Corinth Baptist Church under direction of Fohn Funeral Home. Pastor Donnie Spears conducted the services. Burial with military honors was at Washburn Prairie Cemetery at Washburn.
