Delinquent tax sale upcoming

The office of Barry County Collector Janice Varner is preparing for the annual Barry County real estate delinquent tax sale. Missouri law requires that land with three years of delinquent taxes sell on the fourth Monday of August each year. The first publication of this sale will appear in the Cassville Democrat the week of July 19, 2017, at which time copies will be available in the collector’s office. The tax sale listing can be viewed at barrycountycollector.com, which will be updated as parcels are paid.

Wheaton pair to sing in Branson

Zoie Simpson and Hallie Mitchell, of Wheaton, will be performing in two separate shows at the Hughes Brothers Theatre in Branson. Simpson will perform on July 1, and Mitchell will perform on July 11. Each of them will sing during pre-shows on those respective nights. People wishing to attend may receive a special rate of $25 per ticket. Regular box office rates are $39.99 per person. Health Department Board has vacancy

The Barry County Commission is announcing a vacancy on the Barry County Health Department Board, due to the passing of Rocky Mills. The person that will be appointed will serve until the next General Municipal Election, held in April 2018. Anyone interested in serving on this Board can send a letter of interest to the Barry County Commission, 700 Main St Suite 2, Cassville, MO, 65625, no later than Thursday. The Commission will appoint the new board member.

State-mandated valuation increase coming in Barry County

Sherry Smith, Barry County Assessor, would like to inform property owners of a state-mandated valuation increase, effective for the 2017 taxing year. The state’s county-wide statistical review of property values reflected that Barry County was not at market value for real property, and in addition, noted that there had not been a valuation increase in Barry County for 11 years. The Barry County Assessor’s Office is required by the Missouri State Tax Commission to mail a notice when a property owners’ real valuation increases. These notices are scheduled to be mailed out within the next week. If a person receives a notice, it will be due to either new improvements constructed on the property or due to the state-mandated county-wide review of property values. The assessor’s office is located in the Cassville Courthouse on the square, the phone number is 417-847-4589 and office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eagle Rock Library events scheduled

The Eagle Rock Farmer’s Market will be hosting a garden and craft tool swap meet during the Market time on June 28. The Farmer’s Market is open from 8-11 a.m. every Wednesday and is always open to new vendors. Currently at the Market are tomatoes, onions, garlic, lettuce, blackberries, cedar crafts and homemade baked goods. The Market is located on Highway 86 at the Eagle Rock Community Center. On July 1, the Eagle Rock Community Association will be holding a free concert by “Bob Roper’s Horse Thieves.” The concert will be from 7-9 featuring old three cord country. Bring lawn chairs and get ready for a fun evening.

Reunion to be held Saturday

The Richard Butler (Bud) and Kate Clara (James) Day Family Reunion is scheduled for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the river shelter at Roaring River State Park. People should bring a favorite potluck dish, lawn chairs and drinks (no alcohol). Those who like to pick and sing may also bring musical instruments.

Signups being accepted for School Readiness Fair

Sign-ups for the 16th Annual School Readiness Fair are being taken at the Ozark Area Community Action Corporation’s Barry County Neighborhood Center through July 7 for students Pre-K through 12th grade who will be attending school in Barry County this coming school year. Pre-registration is required, and people may call for appointment at 417-847-2140. The School Readiness Fair will be held on Aug. 2 at the Family Life Center.

HiSET tests available at Crowder Cassville

Crowder College in Cassville will offer high school equivalency (HiSET) testing through August. Remaining test dates include: July 14 and Aug 4. For more information, people may call 417-847-1706.
