Clare L. “Doots” VanDerhoef

Clare L. “Doots” VanDerhoef, 76, of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.

She was born May 11, 1941, in Mississippi County, Mo., the daughter of Herman Lee and Nell (Brantley) McClain. On Feb. 3, 1984, in Mt. Vernon, she was united in marriage to Michael “Mike” VanDerhoef, who survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Scott Stearns and his wife Marty of Cassville, and Toby Stearns and his wife Cortney of Wentworth; two daughters, Tona Pruente and her husband Matt of Verona, and Sheila Bounous of Cassville; two stepsons, Jake VanDerhoef and Mark VanDerhoef and his wife Missy all of Monett; two step-daughters, Cari Paynter and her husband Brian of Freistatt, and Cassie Byrne and her husband Johnny of Lee’s Summit; two sisters, Peggy Hubbard and her husband DeWayne and Miriam Simpson and her husband Bob, all of Mt. Vernon; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, “Mac” McClain.

She graduated from high school at Mt. Vernon and became a resident of Cassville 35 years ago. A celebration of life was held Saturday at First Baptist Church in Cassville under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Rev. Hubert Conway conducted the services.
