Vehicle strikes guardrail, overturns Sunday

Two people were injured Sunday in a wreck at 4:50 p.m. on Highway 39, two miles north of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Sheridan Ponder, 20, of Aurora, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet truck southbound when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned.

Ponder and a passenger in the vehicle, Breanna Briggs, 19, of Rogersville, each suffered serious injuries. Both were transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Briggs was wearing a safety device, and Ponder was not. The vehicle as totaled.
