Purdy hires 2 teachers, counselor
Several positions likely to be filled at June 26 meeting
Several new teachers and additional faculty have been hired to work at the Purdy school district for the coming year.
Jeremy Dresslaer was hired to teach physical education and to be the head boys basketball coach. A graduate of Missouri State University, Dresslaer completed his student teaching at Clever. This will be his first teaching assignment.
Linda Van Deuren, a 22-year art teacher for the Hollister school district, was hired to teach art. Van Deuren is moving back into the area to be closer to family, said Superintendent Steven Chancellor.
Tiffany Costello was hired as a counselor for the middle and high schools. A Missouri State University graduate, Costello taught in Tampa, Fla., as well as working overseas. This will be her first position as a school counselor.
The board formally hired Julie Dalton as the new elementary school counselor, succeeding Janet Boys, who stepped down due to health issues. Dalton accepted the position in May and was released from her contract with the Monett school district.
Two additional resignations were accepted at the last school board meeting. Charlotte McGuirk resigned as a second grade teacher. Samantha Burt stepped down as band teacher after one year heading the high school program.
Chancellor said when the board meets on June 26, he plans to hire an elementary teacher who can also serve as assistant baseball coach. The district still needs a physical education teacher and someone to serve as boys and girls golf coach. He noted the board is still discussing which route to take for an assistant basketball coach for both the boys and girls teams.
