Hunter, of Tech Tree Service of Cassville, stand by a large, hollow tree they cut down Monday, which they believe to be one of the biggest, and possibly oldest, walnut trees in Barry County. Hunter estimated the 140-foot-tall tree, which was located on a private residence about a mile-and-a-half off Highway Y and was found to be hollow from the ground up, to be about 200 years old. Due to the tree’s age and condition, he said it is useless for furniture and other potential walnut projects. He estimated the potential worth of tree to be approximately $5,000 if cut earlier.
