Bear visits family near Roaring River State Park

Wednesday, June 7, 2017
For the first time in several years, Sid and Mary Allsbury, who live approximately a mile and a half mile from the entrance to Roaring River State Park on Buck Ridge Road, got a visit from a bear. The bear was standing near the family’s back door and appeared to be relatively young and out for a stroll. The family was sitting down to breakfast after their visiting daughter, Jodi, and her husband, Troy Powell, and their son, Nathan Powell, returned from fishing at the park. Sid Allsbury said he has a camera on a feeder outside that regularly records deer, foxes and raccoons during visits. They had seen a bear eight years ago that stood five-and-a-half feet tall. He thought this one was smaller and hoped to see it again. Contributed photo
