Silver Discovery group announces next meeting

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

The next meeting of Silver Discovery will be held Thursday, June 1 at the Lawrence County Board of the Developmentally Disabled on Elm Street in Aurora, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pizza and salad will be provided for lunch. Guests may bring their own drink. Water will be available.

Silver Discovery is a new networking group started by Senior Life Solutions out of Cassville. Susan Poehling, RN and Senior Life Solutions director stated, “Our goal will be to come together as a group to share ideas, promote our programs and services, and educate seniors on the availability of these services.” The group will meet once a month at different locations within the Barry/Lawrence area. It is a plan to spotlight one of the agencies that are participating each month, as well as provide some educational component with each meeting."

Close to 30 individuals met for the first meeting on April 6 at Oak Pointe Residential Care in Monett. Each provider gave a brief description of their agency’s services, and Kathy Shepard, Community Relations Manager, gave all participants a tour of the beautiful facility. Oak Pointe is a level two assisted living facility with a secure memory care unit. They have 46 apartments, 33 in assisted living, and 13 in memory care. They are private pay but accept long term care insurance and veteran’s benefits.

A resource book is in the making and each participant is encouraged to send information about their agency to kwatson@lcbddmo.org to be added to the book.

Silvery Discovery would like to thank Steve Douglas with Access Medical and Dental for donating $500 to cover membership fees for non-profit agencies that do not have the extra funds available, and Shepard for a delicious lunch and her hospitality.
