Hemphill takes 16th in the Class 3 triple jump

Mother Nature extended the Missouri Class 4 track meet over five hours longer than planned, but the break did not seem to bother the athletes much.

A tornado warning for the region necessitated a stadium evacuation, and strong winds destroyed more than 50 of the participating schools’ pop-up tents, but enthusiasm was just as high once action returned to the track.

For Cassville, two athletes competed at this year’s event.

Brianna Hemphill leaped to a 16th place finish out of 70 triple jumpers with a 31-08.5 on her third attempt.

Britney Mosby, of Cardinal Ritter, won the event with a 37-4.5.

Hemphill was the highest placing female athlete in the triple jump south of Eldon.

Cassville junior Austin Wilson placed 15th in the 400-meter dash with a 53.48.

Isaac Mauldin, of Fair Grove, won gold with a 49.29.

Calls to Cassville coaches were not returned by presstime.
