Heavy rains, wind mark Friday storm in Barry County

Wednesday, May 24, 2017
A shelf cloud is pictured at about 7:45 p.m. Friday heading northwest into in Butterfield, bringing heavy rains and wind. Shelf clouds, while they look menacing, mark the arrival of a storm and are formed at the boundary of the downdraft and updraft of a thunderstorm. They are different from wall clouds, which typically form at the tail end of a storm and can produce tornadoes. Jeri Hughes/Special to the Cassville Democrat
