Local camps offer options for children, parents

This summer, there are plenty of summer camp opportunities for youth for a summer full of fun, and plenty of options for working parents seeking a fun and safe environment for their child to go.

Camp details are as follows.

Camp SPARK

What: In its second season, Camp SPARK, sponsored by First Baptist Church, Cassville, will again be offering sports, music, drama, art, Bible study and more for local children, packaged in a fun camp-like experience. Children will have the opportunity to create their own camp experience by choosing which activities and events they would like to be involved in.

When: June 26-30, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Family Life Center

Ages: Completed grades K-6

Cost: No cost, registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

Deadline: Registration begins May 14.

Intro-to-Camping

Date: June 16-17

Ages: Completed grades first or second.

Where: Baptist Hill, Mt. Vernon

Cost: $30

Deadline: Registration forms available at First Baptist Church in Cassville.

YMCA Day Camps

Dates: The Cassville YMCA will offer a weekly Day Camp from May 22 through Aug. 11.

Time: Drop off is 7-8:30 a.m.; Pick up is 4-5:45 p.m.

What: Camp includes visits to the park, city pool, field trips, group activities and character development packaged in fun-filled, themed weeks

Two camps available: Completed grades kindergarten through third grade (Rangers); completed grades fourth through sixth grades (Challengers). Depending on group, a sampling of field trips planned include: Botanical Gardens, Cardinals game, lazer tag, Ride the Ducks, science experiments, Discovery Center, ropes course, skating, bowling, Chuck E. Cheese, Tulsa Zoo, movies and cookouts.

Cost: $80 members; $100 non-members. Financial aid is available if needed. It is the mission of the YMCA that no one should be denied based on the ability to pay.

Deadline: Parents can choose which camp weeks they would like their child to attend and sign them up previous to the week(s) chosen.

There will be no camp activities on Memorial Day, May 29.

Ridge Top Bible Camps

Ridge Top Bible Camp in Ridgley will be offering Bible-based camps in a natural setting with Bible studies, crafts, recreation, music and games.

Day Camp: July 31 to Aug. 4 (completed kindergarten through second grades); 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., lunch and a snack provided.

Junior Camp: June 27 to July 1 (completed third through fifth grades); Tuesday 6 p.m. through Saturday 10 a.m., meals and snacks provided.

Middle School Camp: June 12-17 (completed sixth through eighth grades); Monday 6 p.m. to Saturday 10 a.m., meals and snacks provided.

High School Camp: July 17-22 (completed ninth through 12th grades); Monday 6 p.m. through Saturday 10 a.m., meals and snacks provided.

Preregistration forms may be downloaded at www.ridgetopbiblecamp.com, and mailed to Ridge Top Bible Camp, P.O. Box 431, Wheaton, MO 64874.

Deadline: Will take registrations up to day of camp, however, room is limited to 55 campers (with exception of Day Camp).

Royal Family Kids Camp

Royal Family Kids Camp provides a safe and fun camp experience for abused and neglected children in a Christian-based environment.

Dates: June 5-9. Activities will include arts and crafts, outdoor activities and therapy with miniature horses. For more information, people may call Emily Akers at 417-844-4280.

Barry County Youth Camp

Dates: May 30-June 2

Where: Camp Smokey

Green Valley Bible Camp

What: Green Valley Bible Camp is a youth Bible camp sponsored by the Church of Christ, however any child is welcome to attend. Camp seeks to provides week of wholesome spiritual and physical experiences and have a positive impact on young people in a setting that encourages them to get closer to God.

Dates: July 23-29

Host: Mill Street Church of Christ in Cassville, led by Bob Deffenbaugh. Otherwise different sessions are available from June 4. A Day Camp is also available

Ages: Age 11 for overnight camp; completed grades first through age 11 Day Camp.

Application deadline: Registration closes days prior to session start date. Check website under 'register' tab and camp schedule link for closing dates.

Cost: $120/overnight camp; $60 day camp

Where: Rogers, Ark.

4-H Camps: Clover Kids

Dates: Clover Kids Camp: June 17-18, ages 5-7; Member Camps: June 11-14 or June 14-17, ages 8-13; Teen Camp: June 18-22, ages 14 and older.

Theme: National Treasure

Where: Camp Smokey at Roaring River

Activities: Fishing, hiking, swimming

Cost: Clover Kids Camp - $50; Member Camps - $90 members, $120 non-members; Teen Camp - $100.

Camp Wakonda

Dates: Various weekly camps from June 18 through Aug. 5

What: Sponsored by the YMCA, campers will enjoy fun activities, make new friendships and learn new skills and values, including the core values of The Y — caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, while living the "I'm Third" motto of "God first; others, second; and yourself, third."

Two camps available: Trailblazers (entering grades third through sixth); Outback (entering grades seventh through 10th).

Where: Ash Grove (just south of Halltown)

Cost: Tiered pricing includes: Rate A, $480; Rate B, $390; Rate C, $285

An Open House event will be held on May 27 from 1-5 p.m. to tour the camp, meet staff and participate in activities.

CIT (Counselor in Training) camps, for those entering grades 11-12, will be held June 25-July 1, or July 16-22.
