Lia Yang takes first, leads team in dairy foods evaluation

Wheaton High School took home a first place individual award and a third place team award at the 89th Missouri FFA Convention in Columbia.

The participants in the competition taste-test milk samples for flavor, identify 14 different types of cheese, and use a scoring system to test milk products according to USDA standards. The hands-on portion of the event is combined with an intensive written examination.

The Wheaton FFA Chapter placed third in the dairy foods career development event.

Team members, in addition to Yang, are Gerardo Nunez, Hilsden Moseley and Hallie Mitchell. Individually, Nunez placed 28th, Moseley placed 46th and Mitchell placed 156th out of 171 students.
