Pinwheels for Prevention event raises awareness of child abuse

Wednesday, May 10, 2017
Everything wasn’t coming up roses on the courthouse lawn on Thursday — but pinwheels, when the GFWC Sliver Leaf Benefit Club of Cassville (General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Missouri) sponsored Pinwheels for Prevention on May 4 to help raise funds, and awareness, for issues surrounding child abuse. The windy day was perfect for the little shiny pinwheels, which spun furiously, catching the attention of passersby. The campaign has a three-fold aim: to encourage communities to support healthy sexuality and community awareness, schools and youth-serving organizations to support a safe, healthy and respectful environment and for parents to become comfortable talking to their children about all aspects of sexuality. Beginning in 1908, GFWC is the oldest service organization in town, and sponsors community service projects for the arts, public issues, community improvement and conservation.
