Area baseball schools head to Joplin for district play
Southwest and Purdy seeking district titles
Only one team in the Class 2, district 12 tournament will be able to claim the title of champion this season, and each team participating hopes that it will be them.
For Southwest and Purdy, the tournament serves as a way to cap the season and hopefully propel them to a deep playoff run.
Purdy enters the tourney as the No. 2 overall seed, but owns at least one regular season win over every team in the tournament field.
Pierce City claimed the No. 1 spot. College Heights is the No. 3 seed, followed by No. 4 McAuley Catholic.
No. 5 was locked down by Southwest, and Miller claimed the No. 6 spot.
The Trojans open play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against McAuley, with the winner advancing to the semifinal against Pierce City at 5 p.m. on Monday.
College Heights and Miller battle at 1 p.m. Saturday, with Purdy playing the winner Monday at 7 p.m.
The championship games is slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
