Event offers residents opportunity to 'clean house'

It's that time of year again — spring cleaning time — when residents have the opportunity to 'clean house,' and eliminate physical clutter in their homes, garages and yards.

The city of Cassville aims to make that process easier with its bi-annual city-wide cleanup event, set for May 8-12.

City Administrator Steve Walensky said city offices have received several calls from the community about the event.

"Residents really look forward to our spring and fall cleanups," he said.

The following items will be accepted at the curb during the event dates: Barbecue grills; patio furniture; outdoor furniture; sofas; dressers; love seats; recliners; desks; televisions; bundled guttering; beds, including hide-a-beds; mattresses; box springs; wood pallets; waste from small remodeling or wood projects, only if cut into four-foot sections and stacked; sinks; toilets; cabinets; vanities; carpet that is cut into four-foot lengths and bundled; fencing that is cut into four-foot lengths; and bicycles.

Republic Services will not accept tires, yard waste, large quantities of ash, dead animals, raw sewage, waste oil, hazardous materials, wet paint containers, chemicals, flammable substances, lead or acid batteries or waste from large remodeling or construction projects.

The city is also again offering and opportunity to dispose of large appliances and metal for residents. One option is to take only metal or large appliances to a city dumpster located at 503 Mill St. (across the street from the Barry County Sheriff’s Office). This option is free.

The other option will be to set large appliances curb-side for Republic Services to collect, for a $15 fee. Residents must pay the fee at the Cassville City Hall by May 3 to schedule a pick-up for a large appliance.

The following large appliances will be accepted after the $15 fee has been paid: Dishwashers; washing machines; dryers; hot water heaters; and stoves. Republic Services will also accept refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners that display a tag from a licensed technician proving that all Freon has been removed from the item.

Yard waste will be accepted as normal at the Yard Waste facility behind the Cassville Aquatic Park.

All Points Recycling accepts electronics. For more information, including specific items accepted, they may be reached at 417-847-4258.

Republic Services will accept additional household waste and large items on regular collection days.
