Purdy schools seeking to fill administration, teaching slots
Status of principal unclear pending board action
The Purdy school district is looking for an administrator, three teachers and a counselor for the coming school year.
Superintendent Steven Chancellor said that the district is seeking a new principal for kindergarten through sixth grade. Janet McCormick, who has served as middle school principal for more than 12 years, absorbed the elementary principal's duties two years ago after Jeff Swadley left. She also serves as the district's federal compliance officer. McCormick has been on leave since March 21. Chancellor indicated there has been no official board action on the position and nothing will be made public until then.
At the board's April meeting, resignations were accepted from Tommy Egan, physical education teacher and high school boys basketball coach; Eli Ernst, physical education teacher and coach of the high school girls basketball, girls golf and boys golf teams; and high school counselor Jamie Temple.
Chancellor reported by Tuesday morning, he had received 37 applicants for the two basketball coaching positions, 21 for the two golf coaching positions, and 38 for the physical education teaching posts. He has 11 applicants for the counseling position, quadruple the number received the last time the position opened.
A previous vacancy remains, that of art teacher, following the resignation of Lucas Witt. Eight applications have been received for that position.
Chancellor anticipated the board would call a special meeting to set up a separate bank account to handle the pending construction project. He anticipated action on some of these personnel posts at that time.
