Wilma “Kay” Curry

Wilma “Kay” Curry, of Bolivar, passed away in her home on Sunday, April 9, 2017. She was born on Nov. 22, 1934, to Vernon and Alta Shumaker of Golden. She suffered a short illness, which began shortly after her husband of 61 years, Johnny Bob Curry, passed just four months ago. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lewis Keith Shumaker.

Survivors include: her daughter, Tina and son-in-law, Pete; grandson, Hunter all of Springfield; her son, Ryan of Bolivar; and her sister-in-law Judy Shumaker, of Golden.

She was a second-generation teacher. She taught for many, many years in elementary schools in Missouri and Kansas. She last served as teacher-in-charge of the state school for the mentally handicapped in Bolivar. She was also a gifted painter, artist.

Funeral Services will be held on April 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Midwest Cremation Funeral Services, 2026 W Woodland St., Springfield. A private burial will follow the services at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
