No children injured in bus wreck
Cassville bus, vehicle meet at Main Street, Hwy. 112
A Cassville school bus was involved in a wreck on Friday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Highway 112.
Richard Asbill, Cassville superintendent, said there were 22 children on the bus from a mix of grade levels elementary to high school. No students were injured in the wreck, nor was the bus driver.
"The parents [were] contacted, and the students were put on another bus and back on their normal route," Asbill said.
According to Det. Danny Boyd, with the Cassville Police Department, Corinne Lewsader, of Seligman, was driving the bus south on Main Street and attempted to turn left onto Highway 76, failing to yield to a 199 Jeep Grand Cherokee, being driven by Jennifer Ivey, of Purdy.
Ivey and a passenger in her vehicle were transported to Mercy Hospital in Cassville to treat injuries. Lewsader was not cited in the incident.
Asbill said the bus suffered damage to the grill and bumper, and possibly to the radiator. He said the school district is still conducting its accident review process with the driver.
"We are doing our accident interviews, and all our buses have the co-pilot system [of cameras], so we can see what the driver saw," he said. "We are continuing to work on our safety protocols to ensure this does not happen again."
