'Five Alarm' prom-posal brings joy in Purdy
Local fire district chips in resources for Explorers
This week in Purdy, the Purdy Fire District played a role in a prom-posal two Purdy High School students will not soon forget.
Mason Brewer, 17 and an Explorer (junior firefighter) at the district, called on the help of Chief Nick Mercer to ensure he would get a resounding yes from his prospective prom date, Morgan Grissom, 18.
"Mason and Morgan are both on our department and volunteer," Mercer said. "He came up with the idea and wanted to do something for her, and this is how it happened."
Out front of the school Wednesday, Grissom exited the building to find the Purdy fire truck with a banner hanging on the side that read, "Morgan, let's burn up the dance floor," and had boxes for Grissom to check yes or no.
After running to Brewer and accepting a bouquet of flowers, Grissom emphatically checked the "yes" box.
"We appreciate Mason wanted to use us in his proposal, and they are both very active members," Mercer said. "Mason went on 65 percent of our calls last year, and we hope to retain him when he is an adult.
"It's always great to give back to our members with little things like this, and it's a great showing of community involvement."
Brewer is a junior at Purdy, and Grissom is a senior.
