Wildcats basketball poised for big finish
Team encouraged by strong week
With just three games remaining on the schedule, the Wildcats hoops team has its eye on three victories.
On Friday, Cassville hosts East Newton in the hopes of running the table in their final regular season stretch.
“East Newton is a team that will grind away on you,” said Barrett Milleson, Cassville coach. “We aren’t looking past any of these teams and are focused on controlling the things we do.”
Milleson pointed to the three games the Wildcats played last week as a sign that his team has matured.
Cassville defeated McDonald County and Riverton (Kan.) before losing a heartbreaker to state-ranked Lamar, 56-51.
“We showed a toughness and fight that maybe wasn’t there in the beginning of the season,” Milleson said. “Ethan Hoppes scored 24 against Lamar, and I just see signs all over the place that we are playing together more as a unit and not just trying to be individual players.”
Milleson said that his team is starting to hit its stride and pick up momentum.
He stressed that the wildcats do not know how good they can be, but they are starting to figure out that if they play well, they can be special.
Tipoff against East Newton is set for 7 p.m.
