Southwest hosting chili, baked potato fundraiser for band
The Southwest Band Boosters will host their annual Chili and Baked Potato dinner and auction fundraiser on April 1. The money raised will support the band with purchasing items needed throughout the year, including music, stands, instruments, repairs, awards and scholarships. The Boosters are seeking donations from local businesses, and all donors will be recognized at the fundraiser. POP Cheer Factory schedules dance
The POP Cheer Factory’s team Dynamite will host a Daddy Daughter Ball on Feb. 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Monett Area YMCA. The fundraiser aims to help the team go to the National Cheer Competition in Galveston, Texas. The Paris-themed event will offer snacks and dancing. Princesses may be escorted by their father, grandfather, uncle or any other special guy that fits the role. A photographer will be on site for pictures. People may pre-purchase tickets until Feb. 13 at the POP Cheer Factory Gym, located at 1308 E. Cleveland in Monett. Tickets are $15 per couple and $5 per additional child. Pesticide applicator training set for March 13
The Missouri University Extension will host two pesticide applicator training classes on March 13 in Cassville. The first class will be at 1 p.m. in the Barry County Courthouse Commission Room. The second class will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Cassville High School Vo-Ag Department, where a light meal will be provided. There is a $15 fee to attend. The charge will cover the cost of materials. For those who already own the Missouri Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual (M87 – Printed 2007 with blue lettering on the front), there will be a reduction in the cost by $12. Training is conducted by Tim Schnakenberg, regional agronomy specialist. People must pre-register by calling 417-847-3161. If weather is an issue, people may call the phone number provided or 417-838-8405 to confirm if the program will proceed. The training provides certification to obtain a Missouri Private Pesticide Applicators License for agricultural producers and will also count for recertification requirements by the state. The training will not certify for commercial application licenses. Attendees must be 18 years or older. The training will last 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
Retirement reception being held for Patricia Ray
A retirement reception will be held for Patricia Ray on Monday from 2-4 p.m. at the Monett Casino. Ray served 35 years at the Barry-Lawrence County Development Center and recently retired. All people are invited to thank her for her dedication to helping children with developmental delays.
Central Crossing Senior Center offers tax help
The Central Crossing Senior Center is offering simple tax preparation on Monday mornings starting Monday and running until April 3, except for when the center is closed on Feb. 20.
